Crazy Love

I’m reading the book Crazy Love by Francis Chan right now. It’s challenging me to the core, and this is a good thing. I read the 5th chapter about being lukewarm and wow, did it cause me to really reflect on my spiritual temp. Am I lukewarm? I certainly hope not.

Just like the hot/cold game, as you get closer to the object someone tells you “you’re getting warmer, warmer, no cold, ok warmer”, I hope when God’s giving me direction His line is “You’re hot! You’re on fire!” I certainly hope He’s isn’t saying “Connie, you’re just cold.” I’d be heart-broken.

If you have not read the book, then you owe it to yourself to get a copy and READ IT. I’m so glad I have. Thanks for the book, Kaycee!

What do you see?

Perspective…a mental view or outlook.

This weekend has been about perspective for me.  Today especially, we see so many things.  We have the power to log on, search for just about anything in the world and find a picture in about 5 seconds flat.  Unfortunately, it is no comparison to the real experience of being there.  Take this picture for instance.

Prayer Lake

As I walked down the gravel road at Prayer Lake (if you have not been there, you should go), this was my view.  Oh, the beauty.  The water was glistening, the trees are filling out with fresh green leaves, the sun peaking through the tree branches with little streams of light.  Just breathtaking.  Even though a picture’s worth a 1,000 words, what you cannot see is the best part.  The birds, frogs, and other things (no idea what they were) are singing a song with such melody.  The woodpecker is keeping the beat as the gator in the water is making the occasional splash as he/she hunts for the next meal.  The ducks are flying around quacking.  The wind is blowing through the my hair and whistling through the trees as the deer are running off at the sight of me sneaking into their world.  How I love adventure!  I could sit there all day just soaking in the atmosphere (well, until that bee started chasing me).

Life’s all about perspective.  Troubles come.  Disappointments stop in.  Illness can over stay its welcome.  Somehow, in the midst of those things, you and I have the power to change our perspective.  We can see it like a picture and miss half of the environment.  We can choose to see things from the world’s point of view (with hopelessness and despair), or we can change things by seeing the situation in the eternal perspective…full of life and hope.  Perspective…it’s in our hands.

My question for today is this:  How’s your perspective?  Does it need a change of scenery?

Lord, I want Your perspective in everything I do.  Show me where I allow doubt to creep into your perfect plan and open my eyes to see things from Your point of view.  Lead me, guide me, and keep me right by Your side holding Your hand and skipping like a little girl.  Cannot wait until our next adventure.
